Cake Decorator

PURPOSE: Exemplifies and ensures strong customer service in all areas of the job. Provides a superior quality product that exceeds the customers’ expectations. Working knowledge of the department functions, and maintaining adequate amount of fresh inventory.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast and friendly Customer Service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions, filling special orders and food preparation suggestions.
  • Answers and responds to incoming calls appropriately. Receives and appropriately resolves customer complaints and reports to Store Director as needed.
  • Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in-store intercom and one-on-one customer interaction.
  • Helps customers with special orders for cakes and other bakery items, including adding personalization to baked items. Decorates cakes following decorating instructions for special orders.
  • Trims, cuts and shapes cakes to required sizes. Ices cakes, forms designs figures and writes messages on cakes with icing. Ability to form decorations on “flower nail” and transfer decorations to cake.
  • Neatly stores finished and unfinished cakes to maintain quality.
  • May be asked to slice bread and prepare all bakery items, including proofing, baking, packaging and icing product.
  • Implements proper and efficient product demonstrations, preparation and packaging techniques.
  • Maintains Bakery case cleanliness, visual appeal and inventory levels. Responsible for ensuring the proper cleanliness, sanitation and appearance of bakery area and equipment and for ensuring a safe work environment.
  • Ensures temperatures are maintained in all phases of preparation, display and storage.
  • May assist with physical inventory taken every 4 weeks.
  • Controls inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality and freshness and maintains inventory levels according to division directives. Stocks and rotates product. Maintains and organizes cooler.
  • Understands opening and closing department procedures.
  • Builds displays, rotates and discards outdated or spoiled product. Ensures cleanliness of work area and department.
  • Working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Responsible for insuring proper code dating for all products within the department are being enforced.

Required to maintain all varieties of back-up cake in the freezer by using production sheets.
  • Accurately completes, maintains and monitors daily log sheet, Production Chart, Sales and Labor and other required paperwork and logs.
  • Controls shrink and cost.
  • Ensures that proper temperature levels for product are maintained. Ensures proper signing of products.  Complies with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, Company and code dating policies.
  • Complies with all workplace safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensures safety, cleanliness and sanitation of sales floor, work area, freezer, cooler, equipment, prep area and display area, including code date compliance as required.
  • Implements emergency procedures in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions.

Baker

  • Measures and mixes ingredients to form dough or batter. Cuts and mold dough to form pie crust, rolls cookies and related products (Applies only for scratch bakery).
  • Bakes and monitors product in oven and adjusts oven temperature as needed.

  • Ensures that product quality, trimming, grinding, packaging, labeling, rotation and wrapping standards are met.
  • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays. May be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the meat cooler, freezer and butcher block.
  • Ability to follow and maintain department standards and requirements in handling quick sales items.

  • Assists with accurately completing, maintaining and monitoring daily log sheet, Production Chart, Meat Grinding Log, Sales and Labor and other required paperwork and logs.
  • Performs receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying orders using invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, and stocking and rotating product. Adheres to product temperature and storage guidelines and follows proper packaging techniques. May assist with processing administrative paperwork and maintaining accurate department records.
  • Ensures that proper temperature levels for product are maintained. Ensures proper signing of products to include accurate pricing and Country of Origin Labeling (COOL).  Complies with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, and Company and code dating policies.
  • Complies with all workplace safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensures safety, cleanliness and sanitation of sales floor, work area, freezer, cooler, equipment, cutting room and display area, including code date compliance as required.
  • Complies with company grooming standards and dress code.

Front End Clerk (Cashier)

PURPOSE: Provides fast friendly customer service by processing customer orders in an efficient, accurate, safe and courteous manner, in compliance with Company policies and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicates with customers and co-workers in a polite and professional manner.
  • Greets, engages and thanks customers.
  • Monitors customer flow and calls for assistance as needed.
  • Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques as well as bags customer orders properly.
  • Assists customers with promotional items and items available at the checkstand and product location throughout the store.
  • Accurately operates checkstand equipment such as a cash register, electronic payment system, Self-Checkout (SCO), Remote Approval Station (RAP), scanner and scale to process customer orders in strict compliance with Company Policies and Procedures (i.e., Cash Handling, Employee Purchase, Product Return Policy, Restricted Product Sale, Void, Refund, Coupon and Gift Card policies, scan accuracy, WIC and check acceptance, Shoplifting Apprehension Policy, etc.). Reports policy violations to store management.
  • Accurately handles monetary transactions including cash, checks, charges, gift cards, travelers’ checks, food stamps, WIC vouchers, processing coupons, issuing rain checks and handling
  • Accountable for cash register till contents. Required to keep currency and coupons organized.
  • Accurately identifies produce items and enters correct PLU codes.
  • Records and reports inaccurate UPC codes and pricing.
  • Responsible for keeping checkstand area clean, neat and properly stocked and for ensuring a clean, safe and secure work area.
  • May perform duties such as stocking, returning merchandise to the sales floor and rotating merchandise.
  • Responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity and in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
