Child Care Provider Expansion Initiative

Extended until June 2022!

May 23, 2022

The Texas Workforce Commission announced that applications for the Child Care Provider Expansion Initiative will be available in June 2022! In February, the Commission approved $75 million to help improve the availability of child care for families around Texas.  TWC launched a new webpage where interested providers in our area, can learn more: https://www.childcare.texas.gov/childcare-expansion. Additionally, they have two upcoming informational sessions where anyone interested in this initiative can learn more (click on the links below to open the zoom):

New and existing home- and center-based child care providers who are opening or expanding their child care businesses after March 1, 2022, will be eligible to apply if they will be:

  • Serving families in a pre-defined child care desert;
  • Operating in partnership with a local company or consortium of companies, to serve children of their employees; and/or
  • Expanding availability of care for infants (0-17 months).

Funding can be used to offset operations costs incurred during startup and/or the first few months of opening or expanding.

If you know of providers interested in expanding, or employers in your area looking to support their employees’ child care needs, please share this information with them. Providers may also email questions to Expansion@civstrat.com and check https://www.childcare.texas.gov/childcare-expansion soon for more information!
